Emily Garlick is a potter and ceramicist who has been interested in various forms of arts and crafts her entire life. Born and raised in the Detroit metropolitan area, Emily excelled in both art and music. When Emily was twelve, she and her family moved to New Jersey where she was enrolled in private pottery/ceramic classes. This is when Emily states that she really “found her artistic calling”. Emily returned to Michigan to complete her associate’s degree in Liberal Arts (with an emphasis on pottery and ceramics) summa cum laude, at Oakland Community college in 2007. She was elected to Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year colleges, earning scholarships to begin furthering her academic studies at Adrian College in Adrian, MI. After that Emily transferred to William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ in 2011.
Since being at William Paterson University her ceramic work has been displayed in two different student gallery shows, both curated and juried by William Paterson’s 3D faculty. Emily’s ceramic work won a “first-place” ribbon in the ceramic’s category at a private juried art fair, along with it being in other regional/juried shows. Her work has been sold both at art shows/fairs and privately. Emily also creates other art in 2D media and photography. She continues to pursue her love of art and is on track to graduate from William Paterson University in the spring of 2019 with a BA degree in Studio Arts and a minor in art history.
